There are now many different types of schools in England, including 3 different
variants of academies (Sponsored Academies, Converter Academies
and Free Schools) and 4 main variants of maintained schools
(Community, Voluntary Aided, Voluntary Controlled and Foundation).
The purpose of this paper is to explain briefly the differences between these school
types in relation to the following key areas: Curriculum, Students, Finance,
Managing Staff, Governance and Accountability.
